High performance teams reach Maturity Level 3 (ML3) in 3-4 months. Typically, reaching ML3 can take a group of people to develop the skills in 4-6 months, assuming this means that the full core team is working together to accelerate the schedule before it slips and/or even if the schedule is ahead of the targets. When teams accelerate before they slip or are ahead of schedule, they are “banking time” for future time withdrawals when unknown case slips. This is also called “buffer.”
